Doors

Doors

Were you aware that the average building is comprised of hundreds of thousands – sometimes even upwards of a million – individual pieces, from sticks of lumber to fasteners to bricks, yet only a few of these assembled components are operational?  Aside from mechanical systems, doors and windows make up the bulk of the remaining operational elements in a typical building.

Why is this important?  Because these components wear and must be serviced and maintained for best performance. Just as you wouldn’t think of driving a vehicle for tens of thousands of miles without changing the oil and checking the tires, your building’s doors need similar care to ensure they’re fit for the long haul.

Exterior doors are subjected to constant wear, including exposure to the elements, which can often be extreme in the Chicago area.  Maintaining these openings in a building’s shell is critical, as it impacts comfort, energy consumption, and the actual structure itself.

Chicago Window & Door Solutions is a systems based company
These may sound like corporate buzz words, but CWDS believes in the systematic approach to our business. We’ve spent countless hours developing & refining systems & procedures for every aspect of our operation. The benefit to our customers is that we can be dramatically more efficient than other companies while offering an increased level of service. In addition, these systems provide a blueprint for every project, creating consistency and predictability in all facets of the client process, from estimating to scheduling to installation. The end result is projects that run more smoothly and increased customer satisfaction.

Full Frame Entry Door Replacements – from Simpson & ThermaTru
Just as in the case of a full frame replacement window, a full frame door replacement consists of replacing all the components, from trim to operational elements. Entry doors are often one of the most frequently viewed and operated elements of a building. They need to look good, wear well, be easy to operate, and keep the elements out. A full frame replacement involves the removal of the entire door- frame, trim and all. The opening is then weather-proofed using a variety of methods and a new door, hardware, and surrounding trim are installed.

Patio Door Replacements – from Marvin & Integrity by Marvin
Replacing a Patio Door is similar to a full frame entry door replacement; all the door’s components are removed, the opening weatherproofed, & a new door – frame, trim, & all – is installed. Sliding doors are common in patio applications, but one need not be limited to replacing a particular door in kind. Our customers often have us install French or swinging doors in place of sliding ones. The key consideration here is how traffic flow and furniture placement may be impacted by such a substitution. In some instances outswing doors are also an option when floor space is at a premium.

Interior and Exterior Door Hanging
Hanging a new door in an existing opening is a similar process to installing an insert window- no trim is generally disturbed and only the operable components are replaced. It requires a skilled carpenter to work within the constraints of an old opening and we’re fortunate to have a number of talented carpenters on our staff. In addition to the door itself, hinges, knobsets and locksets can also be replaced if necessary. For traditionalists, we also offer mortise lock installations- a dying service.
